Joan Harrison, a former student of Tony Trischka, plays her "Mockingbird" Fanned Fret Banjo with her Bluegrass/Swing band "Too Blue".

"This instrument is the most comfortable banjo I've ever played. The craftsmanship is impeccable and it's tonal range inspires me to explore and expand my musical horizons." You can hear Joan's banjo, as well as her lead vocals and songwriting, on the just released "Too Blue" CD. This CD features stellar guitarist Betsy Rome (check her out in "Flatpicking Magazine"), Jack Murphy on Bass, mandolinist Michael Sassano and the fiddle of Joyce Anderson. Ron Cody of Fretwater serves up some licks from his band's new CD "Balance" on his new custom Fanned Fret Mockingbird banjo.

Ron delivers a fresh and original perspective on jazz and progressive banjo. Our personal favorites from the CD are "Happened So Fast" (track 10) and a wonderful rendition of "Jitterbug Waltz" (track 4). Be sure to visit Fretwater's Website to pick up a copy of this CD.  Below, Bill Keith and Ron trade licks live on the air.

Radim Zenkl is quickly taking his place alongside such great mandolinists as Sam Bush and Dave Grisman. Radim's style features progressive original and eastern European traditional music flavored with string jazz, new age, bluegrass, flamenco, rock, classical and other.

In the words of David Grisman, "Radim has reinvented the mandolin in several different ways. He has created a whole new vocabulary for the instrument."

He plays our unique Desert Flower Resophonic Mandolin on "At The End of Summer" (track 7) of his latest CD, "Restless Joy". Click here to hear a clip from that track, and be sure to visit Radim's website at http://www.zenkl.com/.

A mighty "thanks" to Robb Scott at Miniature Sun Productions for producing the sound clip for us.

Jason James, A must-see New England based Roots Rocker a great friend of ours at Mockingbird Music.  With an onstage presence that is both driving and compelling, Jason delivers rockin' roadhouse rockabilly... Combine that with blues of every flavor - Mississippi, Delta, Chicago - and plenty of tasty slide!  He rocks, he smokes, he rips it up baby!... And he's got some of the fastest fretwork to be seen this side of the Mason-Dixon line!  Be sure to catch Jason at one of his New England Shows!   Click here to visit the "Jason James" website.

A very happy John Harkins of MA. strums his first few chords on his new "Nelson" D-5R Flat-top!   John ordered this guitar in fine Indian Rosewood, Sitka spruce and Honduras Mahogany and we were more than happy to build the guitar of his dreams.  Soundhole is trimmed in a beautiful green/blue abalone with a fine African Turbo snail butt-strip.  The gold plated Schaller tuners, ebony fingerboard and bridge complete the instrument.  A wonderful guitar, enjoy it John!!!

Matt Carlen from the MA based Jam-Grass band "Acoustic Planet" and Bluegrass Band "wide Open Spacesplays his new Nelson "Talon" Mando-cello.  This instrument is constructed from European Spruce and European Maple, fingerboard from flamed Cocobolo.  The Head-cap, wooden tailpiece and wooden pickgaurd are domestic burl maple.
